ANOTHER SUCCESS IN THE CATCHING AND TAGGING OF REDBREASTS
13.02.2014A new successful catch was made on 12th February by the field team of "Safe Ground for Redbreasts" LIFE Project. Following a week of efforts, 45 Redbreasts and 35 Whitefronts were caught by cannon netting. Altogether 12 tags were fitted - 4 satellite and 8 Eobs GPS loggers. The successful catch benefitted also the SOR/BirdLife Romania, WWT and Le Balkan research who provided the satellite tags fitted on 4 of the birds. THE NUMBER OF WINTERING GEESE IN COASTAL DOBRUDJA IS GROWING
03.02.2014On February 1 st , 2014, a team of LIFE + " S afe Grounds for Red breasts " held the scheduled monitoring of wintering birds in the area. W ith the onset of the cold front from the north -east last week , it was normal to expect significantly larger numbers of wintering geese. In support of this expectation came and results - 12 500 Redbreasts and 19 000 White-fronted geese. THE 38TH CENSUS OF WINTERING WATERBIRDS WAS CARRIED OUT AT 10 degrees C
24.01.2014The warm weather over the weekend made the birds stay north of the country 21 Jan 2014: In the period January 17 to 19, the 38th census of wintering waterbirds was successfully held. The warm weather in the country resulted in reporting less "northern" birds than usual. Due to high temperatures, typical wintering birds had chosen to remain in the north instead of flying long distances to our country. Traditionally, the main concentrations of birds were recorded along the Black Sea and the Danube, where tens of thousands of wintering geese were established....

BREAKING NEWS FROM SHABLA
10.01.201410 January 2014: The first setting of cannon nets this season was a success! Yesterday afternoon the BSPB, WWT and RSPB team working on the LIFE + "Safe Grounds for Redbreasts" project managed to capture 12 Red-breasted and 28 Greater White-fronted Geese near Shabla Lake. Three of the red-breasted geese and 5 of the White-fronted now wear GPS radio transmitters to track their movements in the area of wintering and establish the impact of hunting and other disturbance factors on these movements. STABLE NUMBERS OF REDBREASTS AT SHABLA AND DURANKULAK LAKES
06.01.2014On 4 and 5 January we held this year ’s first monitoring of wintering geese at Shabla , Durankulak Lake and S rebarna Lake . Due to the relatively high temperatures and thick fog last week it was normal to expect a small erthan usual number of wintering geese. In confirmation of this assumption came the results - near 4000 Red breasts and 8000 White-fronted Geese atthe two coastal lakes.
