THE BSPB PRESENT THE AMAZING DOCUMENTARY "FLYING AWAY" IN DOBRICH

The amazing documentary about Bulgaria’s wild birds "Flying Away” will be shown on 3 June (Monday) at 19:00 in cinema “Icarus” in Dobrich. The film is created by the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds (BSPB) and Mono Collective with the support of the America for Bulgaria Foundation. EARTH DAY IN SHABLA AND DURANKULAK

This year again the BSPB joined in the celebration of Earth Day in Shabla and Durankulak. Realizing the value of nature and its conservation children of "St. Kl. Ohridski" School - Durankulak and the kindergarten in Shabla planted trees to contribute to better air and climate on the planet and give a chance for new homes of their winged residents. This good deed was accompanied by topical games organized by the education officer of the “Safe Ground for Redbreasts” project and discussions on the importance of nature and its preservation.

We thank all the members and volunteers of BSPB who participated in the campaign of cleaning the lake banks on April 20 ! About 30 BSPB volunteers from Shabla, Kavarna and Varna participated in the action of cleaning the Vaklino arm and the southern shore of Lake Durankulak down to the sea shore . FIRST DATA FROM THE TAGGED RED-BREASTED GEESE

First data were successfully collected from the radio GPS -marked Red-breasted geese in the beginning of February.  The GPS radio transmitters provided a reassuring amount of information. Data show that after the end of the hunting season in late January the geese stick mainly to the lakes’ vicinity. With one or two exceptions, between February 8 to 20 th, the geese have actually spent all the nights in the lakes, unlike earlier in the season when they used to roost in the sea, which shows the influence of the disturbance during the hunting season on their behavior....
