KAVARNA CHILDREN VISITED SREBARNA RESERVE

On 13 th November 2011 about 40 children from Kavarna visited Srebarna Lake, guided by the BSPB “Safe Ground for Redbreasts” project team. The children had the opportunity to see the typical species and habitats of Srebarna, as well as the newly arrived flocks of wild geese and the natural history museum at the reserve.

In mid-November a two-year field study on the impact of grazing geese on wheat yields in the region of Durankulak and Shabla Lakes in Bulgaria started. In the first half October Dr. Nicky Petkov (the scientific consultant to the project) took part in a team of international experts in the autumn Goose monitoring in Kazakhstan. The survey expedition was organized by the local BirdLife partner – the Association for Conservation of Biodiversity of Kazakhstan (ASBK) and the AEWA Secretariat. The first edition of Kite Festival Shabla, dedicated to the Red-breasted Goose conservation issue, is already a fact. "With Good Will for Shabla's Nature"

The Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds participated in the conservation initiative “With good will for Shabla’s nature”, which took place between 15t and 24th July 2011. Over 80 volunteers from the country and abroad took part in the brigade. They cleaned the Black Sea Archaeological Park Durankulak and the beaches of camping sites Shabla, Krapets and Durankulak, where they collected 354 bags of rubbish.
