30.09.2014

On October 4 (Saturday) at 11 am the exhibition "The Red-breasted Geese flyway - from Siberia to Bulgaria" will open in Green Educational center in Shabla. The exhibition is organized by the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds (BSPB) in partnership with the Centre, within the fourth edition of the Kite Festival – Shabla and on the occasion of the EuroBirdwatch.

The Red-breasted Goose is included in the Red Data Book of Bulgaria and in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. The text to the photographs of the exhibition reveals interesting facts about the species. Today in Bulgaria winters almost the whole world population of the Red-breasted Gооse.

The exhibition includes 20 photographs by 10 artists from Bulgaria, Russia, Norway and the UK - Svetoslav Spasov, Daniel Mitev, Victor Vasilev, Mladen Vasilev, Nikolay Petkov, Peter Glazov, Ingar Oyen, Seraf van der Putten, and Peter Kransuik.

The youngest guests at the Green Educational Center in Shabla will have the chance to learn how to make magnetic cards on a specially organized workshop. This workshop is designed to introduce children to the most prominent representatives of the birds that inhabit the Shabla Lake. It will start at 11.30 am and will be held in groups of up to 12 children. Admission is free.

The Kite festival, which was to be held on September 27, was canceled due to bad weather - heavy rain, high winds and thunderstorm.

The Festival and the exhibition are organized within the LIFE+ project “Conservation of the wintering population of the globally threatened red-breasted goose in Bulgaria”, funded by the LIFE + Programme of the European Commission.
