Last weekend (6-7.12.2014) a team of the LIFE + project "Safe Ground for Redbreasts” and volunteers carried out a monitoring of wintering birds in the special protected areas, "Shabla Lake Complex" and "Durankulak Lake", and Srebarna Managed Reserve.

Nearly 900 Red-breasted geese, 450 Greater White-fronted Goose, 600 Great Crested Grebe, and 4000 Mallards were observed in the area of Durankulak Lake.

Nearly 900 Common Pochards were counted in the area of Shabla Tuzla. The increased number of birds is apparently due to the colder weather conditions in the north.

In Srebarna only 6 Greylag Geese were observed and very low numbers of waterfowl - about 800 ducks - Mallards, Gadwalls, Eurasian Wigeons, Northern Shovelers, Eurasian Teals.

Violations of hunting and conservation legislation were not detected.
